How YouTube is simplifying ad campaign creation

YouTube has rolled out a new feature that lets you promote your videos directly within YouTube Studio. This is a game-changer for creators who want to expand their reach and engagement without diving into the complexities of Google Ads.

How does the YouTube Promotions ad creation process work?

With straightforward setup and targeting options, YouTube Studio’s new ‘Promotions’ feature allows you to easily launch campaigns to increase the reach of your uploaded video. It works similarly to Boosted Posts on Facebook or Spark Ads on TikTok, but it focuses on growing your channel's engagement and subscriber count rather than performance-based objectives.

YouTube Promotions are available to all channels that meet the "Advanced" feature requirements and have over 1,000 subscribers. It’s currently available on desktop for all creators, with a mobile app test underway.

Here’s how to get started with it:

  1. Sign in to your YouTube account and access YouTube Studio.
  2. Navigate to the "Content" tab and click on "Promotions" (it might be a ribbon at the top).
  3. Click "Get started" on the Promotions overview page.
  4. Select the video you want to promote from your channel. You can edit the headline and description that will appear in your video ad here.
  5. Define your target audience. This includes demographics, interests, and where you want your ads to be displayed (search results, browse features etc.).
  6. Set your promotion budget and choose the end date. YouTube will provide an estimated view count based on your budget.
  7. Launch your campaign!

Will YouTube Promotions replace Google Ads?

YouTube Promotions are great for giving your videos a quick boost right on the platform, but they're not quite as powerful as full-fledged Google Ads campaigns. With Promotions, you're stuck with video ads (no text, display, or shopping options). You also can't target viewers based on specific keywords, and you have less control over things like budget, call-to-actions, and bid optimisation.

It’s best to use Promotions as a complement to Google Ads, not a replacement. They're perfect for a quick push, or if you're new to ad campaigns and don't have the time to dive deep into Google Ads just yet.
