As the UK’s premier marine engineering services provider, SMS Marine, was looking for a visually impactful website to reflect their position as a market leader in their sector. We created a bespoke website to provide a comprehensive information portal for their cruise, defence, commercial and superyacht clients.
In order to demonstrate the client’s work and grab the user’s attention from the moment they landed on the website, we ensured every page was visually stunning with the use of dramatic imagery, which also served to encourage further exploration and interaction.

Designing the SMS Marine website was an exciting project for the b4b team. With a budget to allow for a custom build, our web design team had free rein to come up with a layout that not only looked different but one that would also display their different services in a clever and intuitive way. The use of parallax scrolling was introduced to create the illusion of depth in the site. By keeping images in the background and placing moving content on top, the site instantly impresses by creating a 3D effect as you scroll.
SMS has a high profile client base and they wanted to showcase their work so we ensured the website included a case study module that would give details of a project’s background, work involved and the result. One such client was the refit of MY Shemara, a classic motor yacht that was once party to guests such as Grace Kelly and Marilyn Monroe!
To demonstrate their global reach, we created a map which highlighted the areas of the world they have operated in.

Built on our own CMS (content management system) platform, the team at SMS are able to update the website by adding new pages, updating content via their news and case study modules, and generally keeping it fresh and up-to-date. As the client is very active on social media channel Twitter, we added a built-in Twitter feed to display their latest tweets.
The stunning imagery throughout the site really brings the website to life and a world map with ‘hover over’ pins showcases just how international the SMS Marine service is.
