Introduction

MB Wilkes, a leading supplier of aggregates and landscaping materials in Dorset, approached b4b for a much-needed website upgrade. Having used the same site for many years, MB Wilkes wanted a faster, more intuitive experience that could handle their complex pricing and delivery requirements. Given their unique business needs, a standard ecommerce platform was not an option. Instead, we recommended our custom ecommerce platform, designed for flexibility and scalability to grow alongside MB Wilkes.

The Challenge

MB Wilkes operates with intricate pricing and delivery rules based on product type, packaging, and customer location. The site needed to account for these complex requirements, blocking customers outside the delivery radius and adapting prices automatically. MB Wilkes also wanted a system where customers could access their accounts to view order details and reorder easily, while incorporating a visually rich, engaging experience with video content highlighting their impressive fleet and quarry.

Complex Pricing and Delivery Rules

The platform accommodates MB Wilkes’ detailed pricing and delivery rules, automatically adjusting cart value based on product type, packaging, and customer postcode. Customers outside the delivery area are prevented from ordering, ensuring accurate logistics management.

Delivery Date Management

MB Wilkes has full control over delivery scheduling through the CMS. In addition to blocking specific holiday dates to prevent orders on bank holidays and other closures, they can set minimum lead times for orders, ensuring that customers can only select delivery dates a specified number of days in advance. This flexibility helps MB Wilkes manage logistics efficiently and meet customer expectations.

Customer Accounts & Repeat Orders

Customers can log in to their accounts to place repeat orders quickly, streamlining the purchasing process for regular clients. We migrated all existing customer and order data from the previous website, ensuring a seamless transition without service interruptions.

Order Confirmation Notifications

Both MB Wilkes and their customers receive instant email notifications upon order confirmation, enhancing transparency and communication.

Discount Code Management

The website’s admin panel includes tools for creating and managing discount codes, allowing MB Wilkes to customise promotions based on frequency, duration, and discount type (flat rate or percentage).

New Video Content

Our media team produced a professional video showcasing MB Wilkes’ fleet, quarry, and machinery. This video features on the homepage and is also leveraged for social media, giving customers a firsthand look at MB Wilkes’ capabilities.
