Mental Health Awareness Week 2022: How to improve wellbeing at work

In honour of this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week, we sat down for a chat with Dorset Mind. Listen to our podcast for an interesting discussion about all the ways businesses can help to promote better staff wellbeing and adapt to a post-pandemic way of working.

We also thought it would be nice to share some of the things we’ve implemented to support our people and create a happy, healthy workplace culture.

We offer hybrid working

One of the major things that changed for us as a team after the pandemic was that we introduced hybrid working. We recognise that everyone works differently – some like a busy office surrounded by colleagues to bounce ideas off, while others benefit from the flexibility and quiet that working from home provides.

Hybrid working offers the best of both worlds, which is why it seemed like the perfect option for us as a business.

Regular social events

We’re a really close-knit team that enjoys socialising outside of work. As well as our annual summer and Christmas parties, we organise regular team lunches and impromptu nights out. During the week, our break area is a nice spot for a game of pool over lunch, or simply having a catch-up on the cosy sofas.

The Culture Committee

Among many other responsibilities, Taylor and Aimee (the lovely people who head up our Culture Committee) are there to make life at b4b the best it can be.

As well as organising social events, they manage our staff recognition scheme, oversee our onboarding and training processes, and offer their time and support to colleagues seeking advice on a range of subjects. Separate to them, we also have a qualified Mental Health First Aider in the team.

Being open and staying connected

Chatting to Dorset Mind really drove home the importance of open communication at work, and we are sure to promote this wherever we can. The management team are approachable and accessible, and we all work closely between departments.

We’re lucky to live in a digital age with easy access to instant messaging and video calls – perfect for staying connected when we’re working from home.
