Business Purpose

The modern organisational environment is characterised by constant change. The successful organisation needs to be flexible, fast moving and adaptable. To do this, organisational structures are becoming flatter and less hierarchical. They form teams to tackle business problems and important projects. Many of these teams may not only be cross-functional but also 'virtual' in that their members are not geographically co-located.

The competencies and behaviours required to operate successful teams are different both for the team members and for management. Managers must allow teams real decision making responsibility. For this to happen, teams must have the necessary knowledge. Information flows must be multi-directional. Communication and stakeholder management are paramount.

For teams to be successful they need to be able to communicate effectively, share information and resources and to understand not only the team's vision and strtegy but also its processes and project milestones. Traditional 'shareware' packages do go some way towards this but do not provide a project forum and resource base, which can be shared by all members at any time.

''Teamworks' is a web-based project collaboration and knowledge management tool which aims to overcome the limitations of geography and time and provide a resource which will help build team effectiveness and enhance their performance. Like all our products, 'Teamworks' aims to deliver business benefits, enhanced team performance and personal development objectives.

Programme Structure

''Teamworks' may be run from a secure web site or on a corparate Intranet. Team members are given unique passwords and a member of the Team is usually given administration rights.

The site consistes of a framework that is customised for each user's particular requirements. The framework consists of the following areas:
  • Team Homepage - including space for team aims, vision and strategy and a sign-on area.
  • Site Map
  • Stakeholder Map
  • Project Management - an area in which the latest project management files can be viewed (changes restricted to authorised personnel only).
  • Communication Forum - where conversations can be carried out about specific topics and views exchanged. An online conferencing ability is also available. An online conferencing ability is also available.
  • Resource Library - an area in which files can be uploaded and indexed for use by any team member. A search facility aids access to specific files.
  • Learning Area - in which members can record their personal developments objectives from the project in hand.
  • Presentatins Area - a separate area is provided for storing presentation files which are critical to project success.
The framework is completely adaptable to any organisation and is particularly suited for use by Virtual Teams.

Measurable Outputs

A large number of benefits will srise from the use of 'Teamworks'. The three most important to team outputs will be:
  • Improved involvement and performance
  • Positive increase in morale
  • Sense of ownership and commitment

Teamworks provides a unique environment that helps to reinforce team aims, values and behaviours. It can be clearly focused on the business issue around which the team is formed. It can also be used to record the personal development issues arising amongst team members and can fit into other development and Learnign work within the organisation.

The greatest benefit from using 'Teamworks' is the ease of sharing knowledge. Without easy access to and sharing of knowledge, teams will not be successful at decision making and project delivery.

Being web based it is easy to use and cross platform in nature. It overcomes the limitations of both geography and time and can be used by itself and in conjunction with any of our other programmes and courses.
