Development Centres

Business Purpose

Development Centres are designed to identify and agree the existing strengths and development needs of individuals within organisations. Trained coaches facilitate and support participants during the development centre, helping them to understand the skills they have or have not displayed against an agreed set of competencies. Feedback from the coaches forms the basis for preparing a develpoment plan to 'close the gap' and produce a step change in performance. Both the individual and the organisation benefit from the time spent focusing on the abilities of the participants against the skills required for future business requirements.

The b4b Development Centre approach stems from our experience in successfully leading organisations through change and performance improvement programmes our aim is always to push out the boundaries of performance. We look to identify potential and latent talent that will produce the enhanced results that are needed to stay ahead in today's rapidly changing environment.

Using a variety of practical exercises all relevant to the organisation, a b4b Development Centre will open the minds of participants to development activities in line with their own requirements, that complement the needs of the organisation, resulting in their performance being raised to a higher level. The aim is to have a direct, dynamic, immediate and ongoing impact on results.

Programme Structure

Each Development Centre has four clearly defined stages:
  • Pre Development Centre Preparation
  • Development Centre Delivery
  • Individual Feedback and development discussions
  • Implementation of Development Plans

Each Development Centre is run by a team that includes selected and trained coaches from within the organisation, together with trained coaches and a logistics co-ordinator from b4b.

Feedback from coaches is prompt, frequent, well supported and, most importantly, helpful in determining the participants' abilities against the skills required by the organisation in an existing or next level role.

The focus and emphasis is on planning subsequent development activities. The approaches used within a Development Centre can include:

  • Individual Exercises
  • Group Exercises
  • Profile & Skill Questionnaires
  • One to One feedback sessions
  • Personal reflection and planning time

The challenging exercises, introspection and personal planning are not easy and will provide a demanding programme. The Development Centre is intended to be an enjoyable, interactive experience from which participants will gain an understanding of their own development needs.

Participants will go away from the Development Centre with a Development Plan that is likely to include a range of activities, learning requirements, project work and mentoring that they are responsible for implementing.

Measurable Outputs

The key benefits that will result from a b4b Development Centre are:
  • Individual strengths and development needs are clarified and agreed
  • Latent talents and skills are uncovered leading to improved performance
  • The exposure of organisation coaches to participants
  • A noticeable and measurable improvement in performance

We aim to lead individuals through a rewarding learning experience that also provides the organisation with a significant return on their investment.
